Summary

Brace yourself for longing, laughter, and a swoony slow-burn in this brother’s best friend sports romance about scoring the love of your life when you least expect to。 Ziggy I’m the youngest player on the National Soccer team, the baby of my family, and thoroughly sick of being underestimated, so I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands。 Which is where my brother’s best friend and teammate, the infamous Sebastian Gauthier, comes in。 Seb needs to rehab his reputation。 I want to give mine an edge。 So I propose a fake friendship with real spending time in the public eye, my good-girl image and his bad-boy notoriety rubbing off on each other。 He’s my devious, dark-haired fantasy come to life, but his destructive ways make it easy to keep him in the (fake) friend zone。 Or so I thought, until I start to see the heart of gold he’s been hiding beneath that sinister surface… Sebastian Like any self-respecting reprobate, I’ve been spiraling downward, and finally I’ve hit rock bottom。 My hockey career and sponsorships are in jeopardy, and while I’m not ready to actually reform my ways, I’m happy to pretend that I have, to secure the life I’m on the brink of losing。 So when my best friend’s sister, Ziggy Bergman, proposes a public “friendship” to revamp our reputations, it’s an offer I can’t refuse。 Up till now, I’ve stayed away from Ren’s sweet, shy little sister to avoid any risk of ruining my one good friendship。 But I reassure myself there’s no risk in our scheme。 I’ll fake a friendship with Ziggy, fix my reputation, and get back to hockey, the one and only thing I love。 At least, it was, until what began as a transactional arrangement became the most loving relationship I’ve ever known。 If Only You is a brother’s best friend, (fake) friends with benefits to friends to lovers romance about a bighearted, quietly fierce soccer star on the autism spectrum, and a thoroughly unprincipled, almost irredeemable hockey player who has celiac disease。 Complete with an absurd level of mutual pining, meddling family and friends, and a spicy slow burn, this standalone is the sixth in a series of novels about a Swedish-American family of five brothers, two sisters, and their wild adventures as they each find happily ever after。

Being able to jump back into the Bergman family is just like being welcomed home into a gorgeous found family, with all the love, quirks, and missteps humans make。 Chloe’s writing leaves me to wonder if she has ever studied mental health counseling, because man, there are some fabulous hard hitting lines in her books!I feel like Chloe does a great job of balancing, “this hard thing happened in the past” without revisiting it to the point where a reader would have major trouble with potential tri Being able to jump back into the Bergman family is just like being welcomed home into a gorgeous found family, with all the love, quirks, and missteps humans make。 Chloe’s writing leaves me to wonder if she has ever studied mental health counseling, because man, there are some fabulous hard hitting lines in her books!I feel like Chloe does a great job of balancing, “this hard thing happened in the past” without revisiting it to the point where a reader would have major trouble with potential triggers。 This goes for both the FMC and MMC。 The drop ins of previous Bergmans with updates on their HEAs is always a hit, in my opinion。 I wish there were more! But I suppose part of the problem is that Ziggy is all grown up and has a life of her own。 。。。more

Thanks to @netgalley for an advance copy of If Only You by Chloe Liese, out TODAY! Of course, and I loved every minute。 But these characters shine in the quiet moments, the ones where they show up for each other。 All any of us wants is to be seen — really seen — and Ziggy and Sebastian see each other。If you haven’t yet picked up one of the Bergman Brothers books, you’re missing out。 They don’t need to be read in any particular order, so you can start wherever you like。 。。。more

Brilliant, insightful funny and steamy As a queer neuro divergent problem with dietary issues and chronic illness who loves a sports romance this book was bloody amazing。 Insightful in every way, steamy in platonic moments。 The bookshop scene! The Bergman series is such a comfort series for me! Was this my favourite of them all? No, but I still really enjoyed it nevertheless。 I loved seeing Ziggy and Seb bond and learn how to help each other be their true selves。 This is a slow burn though (maybe the slowest of them all?) and I kinda wished we had gotten to see more of the ending! It ended a little abruptly for my liking。

I, much like her well-intentioned family, deeply underestimated Ziggy。 If you’ve followed the series from the beginning, you’ve seen her start as an anxious high schooler struggling with an autism diagnosis, through early adulthood as a professional soccer player。 I can admit I was fully planning to read this for the sake of completeness of the series but it’s probably one of my favorites! If Only You is a book of hope, understanding, and kindness。 The book follows Ziggy as she steps into herself and Seb as he is forced to decide if he’s ready for a change。 Ziggy is looking to be recognized as the independent adult she is while her family still sees her as the young adult she was。 Ziggy struggles to assert her voice, which is where bad boy Sebastian comes in。 Free from any preconceived ideas about who Ziggy was, he sees her for who she is。 Of course, Sebastian is fresh off a terri If Only You is a book of hope, understanding, and kindness。 The book follows Ziggy as she steps into herself and Seb as he is forced to decide if he’s ready for a change。 Ziggy is looking to be recognized as the independent adult she is while her family still sees her as the young adult she was。 Ziggy struggles to assert her voice, which is where bad boy Sebastian comes in。 Free from any preconceived ideas about who Ziggy was, he sees her for who she is。 Of course, Sebastian is fresh off a terrible hockey season and some bad press。 He has to decide how to move forward, which is where Ziggy’s friendship publicity scheme comes in。 They’ll both benefit from each other’s image。 What begins as a publicity stunt turns into real friendship。The book introduces several elements to each character’s backstory that are not all explored on page or in great measure。 Some plot lines are introduced briefly and addressed quickly, like both of Sebastian’s father figures。 Ziggy’s friend Charlotte makes a short appearance for a scene or two and doesn’t reappear later in the book despite being one of her teammates。Though both characters mention they are queer, they don’t seem to find it to be a significant point of connection, which I’ve found to be something quite essential in my own life。 Of course, my experience of being queer is not the only one。 However, it was unclear if Seb was out to his teammates and what, if any, implications there were in the hockey world this book is set in, when IRL, the climate is currently hypermasculine and homophobic。Ziggy went through growing pains at the beginning of the book and was allowed to discover who she wanted to be in a messy and kind fashion。 After her initial exploration of who she wanted to be, she settled into her skin quickly。Meanwhile, Seb’s initial characterization did not match the information the reader was given about him。 Seb tells Ziggy he’s not good at communicating。 However, he is remarkably self-aware and able to elaborate on how his trauma has affected him before he decides to go to therapy。The characters give each other the benefit of the doubt and are kind and thoughtful people, which makes the novel low angst and allows the reader to feel confident in the ending。Thank you for the ARC。 。。。more

This is soooooo good - finding a HEA for Ziggy, with a bad boy, no less。 Ziggy is a complicated bundle, but cushioned by the unconditional love of all the Bergmans, especially her brothers。 Sebastian doesn't have that family support (the opposite in fact) and he is so bad, so disappointing, that for many he is irredeemable。 But not to Ziggy。 Is she right? Is he worth her faith? The long-awaited Bergman sibling's book 6 was absolute sunshine in a bottle! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Chloe Liese for an advanced copy of Ziggy's book, If Only You。 Ziggy is the youngest Bergman sibling who has lived her life in the shadows of her elder siblings by (mostly) her choice。 As someone on the autism spectrum who was diagnosed in her teens, she's had to adjust to her sensory needs and while her family has fully worked to accommodate her, they also subconsciously put her in a box with all things delicate。 Now, as an adult, Ziggy is struggling between the person she was in the past and the person she is now。 In an effort to give herself an edge, she decides to fake a friendship with Sebastian Gauthier, current hockey bad-boy and Ren's resistant best friend。 As their (fake) friendship begins to develop, they come to realize the true benefits and similarities they have and their acts of kindness really drill the point home (even if our main characters seem unaware to the love that is blooming)。 I know this is the wrong sport, but this book was a total home run for me。 What a beautiful story, so well deserved for Ziggy, whom we have seen struggle and grow up in this series。 Sebastian was the perfect match for her。 Tough and sensitive and as we'd been hinted to in Book 3, totally her type。 I also loved the side story and, perhaps, re-introduction to our last Bergman sibling, Viggo。。。oh my, I cannot wait to see him get his happily ever after。 Ok, back to Ziggy & Seb, this book was gush-worthy, I have read it twice so far, will keep it in my comfort read rotations and will buy the audiobook when it's out because it's just that good。 Chloe Liese, you are a genius, thank you for sharing this beautiful gift you have with the rest of us。 。。。more

I'll preface this by saying I got an ARC。So, as an aspie myself I was really excited to read this book。 I always get pumped when I se autism spectrum representation in books, especially in female characters。 Combine that with bisexual rep, and this seemed like the ideal book for me。Like every other book Chloe Liese has written, this book is。。。 Well I feel like "wholesome" is the best way to describe it。 Chloe is really good and giving underrepresented groups a voice, and her books are filled wit I'll preface this by saying I got an ARC。So, as an aspie myself I was really excited to read this book。 I always get pumped when I se autism spectrum representation in books, especially in female characters。 Combine that with bisexual rep, and this seemed like the ideal book for me。Like every other book Chloe Liese has written, this book is。。。 Well I feel like "wholesome" is the best way to describe it。 Chloe is really good and giving underrepresented groups a voice, and her books are filled with diversity on the disability, neurodivergent and sexual spectrum。This book follows Ziggy, the little sister we've seen in the background in many a book now, kind of awkward and a bit shy。 Ziggy is ready to get out of her shell and revamp people's perception of her。 Enter from stage left "bad boy" Seb。 Her big brother's best friend and all around self hating wretch。 Seb is definitely more than he appears, and both out main characters go through important personal journeys throughout this book。 becoming the people they need to be so they can be together。 This is a tender and adorable friends to lovers story, as they first fake a friendship in public so she can be rid of her veneer of good girl naiveté, and his reputation can be somewhat redeemed。 But throughout feelings develop, and these two grow closer。 prepare for a lot of mutual pining! So, what where my thoughts?Well this book was good, of course it was good。。。 But I didn't really love it, The pining just left me so frustrated, I wished they would just get it on already。 I started getting annoyed with Seb because his care for Ziggy because she was special to him and his reticence to to anything with her because he could "never hurt her" etc, felt a bit like the infantilization everyone else was doing to Ziggy as well。 Like she didn't know her own mind or what she wanted and he needed protect her innocent special self。I did like that Seb took some time to work on himself etc, but by the time things got consummated at like 95% I was just frustrated。 Also, although Ziggy was a cool character, I didn't really connect much with her, preferring her when she was a side character in other people's stories over when I got to be in her POV。 I've read two characters Chloe has written who was on the spectrum that I loved; Frankie and Bea。 But for some reason Ziggy didn't really work for me。 That is just preference though。 All in all。。。 I liked this book, and it was good, but don't think I'll do a reread of it。 。。。more

If Only You by Chloe Liese is a swoony sport romance that will melt your heart! Ziggy Bergman is the baby of the family and wants to show the world and her family that she’s an adult woman and not a cookie cutter goody two shoes and who better to get some edge than Ren’s bestie and hockey teammate, Sebastian。 Seb and Ziggy couldn’t be more different but he’s on thin ice, she wants to be seen as mature and cool so why not be fake friends, you know instead of fake dating? Fake friendship and it’s as swoon worthy, sweet and fun as imagined。 What I loved about this book is seeing neurodivergent rep with an autistic main character。 Ziggy is such a sweet and caring person, choosing to see the good in others, loving her romance books, being an amazing and passionate soccer player。 Her sensory issues with certain things like clothes and loud sounds were something that I as a person with sensory issues appreciated and felt seen in。 It’s often times you don’t see neurodivergent characters being the main characters in a romance book and Chloe Liese does such a beautiful job of that。 Another thing I loved was seeing Sebastian’s growth and journey to forgiving himself and accepting love for himself, from his friends and that’s it’s okay to lean on people。 Your past doesn’t define you and that was very emotional to see。 I love how despite his grumpy exterior he was so sweet and caring and understanding to Ziggy and very protective of her。 Their friendship was so sweet and soft。 You could see the moments where it was more than just friends and them coming to realize they’re in love。 This book also has queer rep with bi and pan main characters, dual pov, slow burn romance, mutual pining, friends to lovers, celiac rep, self love journey, found family trope and sport romance and no third act break up and it’s so fun, witty, steamy, sweet and in true Bergman fashion, a big Swedish family to wrap you around and welcome you like you’re one of them。 I also loved seeing familiar faces from past books and how they’re doing。 I loved the ending。 It was so perfect and sweet and felt like everything is falling into place as it should be。 As sad as I am thinking about this book being the second to last, I can’t wait for series to continue but I hope everyone is ready for Ziggy’s book because If Only You will have you grinning at your reading screen! 。。。more

Ziggy Bergman has had enough of the people in her world not taking her seriously and still treating her like a child。 Sebastian Marchand, her brother’s best friend, is in an angry, self-destructive spiral and can’t seem to care enough to pull himself out of it。 So Ziggy proposes a fake friendship—he’ll look better by being seen with someone as innocent and stable as Ziggy and she’ll finally be able to scuff up her reputation a bit。 While helping each other help themselves (I feel like we all nee Ziggy Bergman has had enough of the people in her world not taking her seriously and still treating her like a child。 Sebastian Marchand, her brother’s best friend, is in an angry, self-destructive spiral and can’t seem to care enough to pull himself out of it。 So Ziggy proposes a fake friendship—he’ll look better by being seen with someone as innocent and stable as Ziggy and she’ll finally be able to scuff up her reputation a bit。 While helping each other help themselves (I feel like we all need to give angry yoga a try), they realize that they’ve accidentally become real friends and maybe would like even more。This is the slowest of slow burns leading to possibly the most earned when they finally get together I’ve ever read。 Through the series we’ve seen Ziggy as an uncomfortable teen reeling from her Autism diagnosis to now a strong, powerful woman who knows who she is and just needs everyone else to catch up。 Sebastian is wounded and bitter, for very good reason。 I also loved that Ziggy recognized and understood the mourning for his old life Seb would have once he realized he had Celiac。 It’s two people who come into each other’s lives at exactly the right moment leading them to want to be the best versions of themselves for each other。 I seriously love this series so much—like I won’t shut up about it to my poor friends。 You can jump in with any book but I’d highly recommend all of them。 Available 4/11/2023。 。。。more

I don’t think I have enough words to properly explain how much I love this book。 These characters & their story completely captivated me。 This book revolves around the youngest sister & professional soccer player, Ziggy as well as Sebastian, who is her brother’s best friend & a professional hockey player。 They are both looking to revamp their public images & decide to use each other’s company to hopefully achieve said goals。 The events that follows include family dinners, angry yoga, books, games & so many adventures。 It was such a delicious slow burn of a story with the tension & chemistry between these two constantly simmering & moments of their sparking attraction close to boiling over。 My heart was fully immersed into this story。 I adored both of the leads。 As someone with chronic stomach issues, I was excited to see that represented & the agony that it creates depicted。 I am also neurodivergent, so I am always grateful for more representation there with Ziggy being autistic。 It was heartwarming & joyous watching both of these characters grow into their best selves after going through such difficult times。 Sebastian as a hero was just incredibly swoon-worthy。 I have one word, bookstore! This is the type of story that makes you just giddy to read it & I honestly didn’t want it to end。 The love I have for this fantastic fictional family of the Bergmans is unreal。 I am not ready for this series to end, but thankfully I cannot wait to read the next one。 I highly recommend this book & the entire Bergman series to anyone in the mood for wonderful romances with the best kind of family & filled with so much heart, humor, heat & amazing disability representation! The author also makes playlists for their books that you can listen as you read if you are wanting & able。 They are an excellent & eclectic group of songs I always enjoy & find new songs to add to own playlists, which is rad。 It’s an honor that I’ve received an arc of this, which I don’t take lightly。 I am just continuously so thankful for this opportunity as well as so grateful for Chloe Liese for her continued representation of the disabled community。 It’s a joy to read & witness & gives me so much hope。 Thank you times a million。 Content Warnings: This is an open door romance with consensual sexual intimacy。 There is also a character on the autism spectrum as well as a character with celiac disease。 It includes the topics of self-medicating with alcohol & substances as well as past with a verbally abusive step-parent & abandonment of a parent。 This was included at the beginning of the story, which I always think is super neat。 。。。more
